West Hampstead Home
When they discovered this faded Victorian townhouse, our Clients fell in love with its generous proportions and glimpses of period details and, on the recommendation of friends, invited us to help them bring the lustre back to this elegant home.
A rare 6 bedroom detached Victorian property in a tree-lined street, the property had been fully refurbished to a high standard some 15 years ago, but it had been neglected and some of the more modern additions lacked cohesion. Replacing the heavily scratched black flooring with lighter timber, sanding back the grubby Venetian plaster, and refreshing the paintwork dramatically brightened the space, restoring its inherent warmth
Introducing French style doors within an existing archway created a welcoming lobby space, far better suited to the grandeur of the property and improved the flow of the home. The beautiful original staircase was restored and painted off-black, showcasing its intricate detail. Elsewhere we created a new family room, by combining two smaller rooms in the lower ground floor, and refreshed the existing kitchen with new doors and worktops.
Our Clients spent more than a decade lovingly collecting a series of paintings, drawings and prints by various Indian artists. The open plan reception and dining room became a gallery-like canvas, showcasing the Clients’ treasured art collection, and completing their vision of a vibrant, elegant family home.
“We were clear we wanted a design aesthetic which was classic but contemporary. Most importantly, we wanted to ensure our art collection found a home which allowed it to be appreciated as it deserved.
We had seen Victoria’s work at a friend’s house and loved her style. We reached out to her as soon as we bought our new home, talking her through our vision for the house, and in particular, ensuring that our art fits in with the design and flow of the house.
We very much enjoyed working with Victoria – she made the effort to understand our preferences, she presented us with beautiful interior options taking into account our feedback, and gently nudged us to consider new ideas (painting the stairs black, creating a camera effect by painting the dining room patio door frame black)! Victoria also designed some beautiful bespoke pieces for us.
We are delighted with our new home – it has turned out beyond our expectations, and it would not have been possible without Victoria’s vision and help. We have recommended Victoria to friends and would highly recommend Victoria to anyone looking for an interior designer.”
